Tips to Train Your Kids for Preschool Environment

Whether you are sending your kid to preschool for the first time, there are some vital things you can do to help him or her get over those first-day jitters. Both you and your little one will need some time to adjust.

You must visit the school before you begin. You and your child will be more comfortable if the surroundings, teachers, and staff are familiar to you. Once you establish a familiarity with the school’s surroundings, start to talk about the schedule with your kid. Don’t forget to follow the schedule as closely as possible at home. Also, make a point of reminding your kid what is coming next and at one time.

You can also use visual aids if your kid has trouble transitioning between activities. Also, keeping feeding as well as nap times the same as in preschool will keep him or her from getting tired to deal with new things.

You must talk about preschool in a positive light but don’t inflate expectations. The last and not the least thing you want is for your kid to expect a party and then he or she has to sit quietly and work. Prepare your child for quiet times by reading books in a designated “quiet zone” in their room. Kids will get into the habit of mimicking your behavior without explaining the rules.

Many parents make the mistake of saying things like, “You won’t be allowed to do that at preschool!” or “You’d better not do that at the school and embarrass me!” Such statements put unrealistic expectations on a kid. You can’t expect that they won’t break the rules or they won’t test the boundaries of the school’s teachers and staff.

Remember, determining adults’ boundaries at preschool age is a developmental step that you need to help them get through. When all adults in charge of the kid are on the same page, this phase of “testing” will not last long.

Preschool can be extremely beneficial for many kids, so it is a great idea to consider letting your little one attend preschool before he or she enters kindergarten. We know that preschool is not a prerequisite for acceptance into kindergarten, but many teachers expect kids to have been in preschool before they join their kindergarten class. These days, preschool online classes for kids are also available, so you can go for them as well.
